HM 40: Study Office of Peace

This memorial sailed through committee with positive public comment and positive reception from committee members. Unfortunately, it sat on the House Calendar for the remainder of the session and did not get a vote. With Governor Luján Grisham promising a special session to address violence, we hope to get another shot at getting a feasibility study on creating a state-wide office devoted to distributing curricula and training in non-violent conflict resolution, restorative justice, and peer counselling. We will also work in the interim to get the feasibility study done without passage of the memorial. Note the previous efforts were toward creating an office directly. The name of the office in future efforts could change again (has also been Peacebuilding) to emphasise non-violence and violence reduction as well as peacebuilding.

Happy International Day of PEACE

Green Party = Peace Party

Today is the 45th International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations. It is the 25th anniversary of the declaration that it be a day of non-violence and ceasefire. The Green Party is the national party calling for reduction of the U. S. military budget and investing that money in housing and medical care. These are the actions that will give a return on investment:

    • provide a pathway for people to meet their basic needs
    • preserve the planet we all call home
    • promote co-operation instead of domination.
