Salute to Roberto Mondragón

Roberto Mondragón was the Green Party candidate for Governor of New Mexico in 1994.

“Roberto Mondragon, brought dignity and respect to the New Mexico Green Party with his campaign for Governor in 1994. He travelled the state rallying the people to dare to imagine a more fair political system where new voices and parties could share in power beyond the grip of the two party system. He brought expertise and spirit to the debates with incumbent Governor Bruce King and future Governor Gary Johnson.

Ahead of the times and freed to step out of the major party boxes, Roberto ran a campaign focused on the future, not only of caring for the environment but equally as important, the future of New Mexico children…”

–Carol Miller

One of the highlights of the campaign was the televised debate preserved by CSPAN where he makes the declaration explicit: “…for our children and our children’s children”.

He spent decades serving the people of New Mexico in various capacities. We honor and thank him for his work. Rest well, sir.
